A broader idea: introducing the new Connectivity for AR Working Group

We’re happy to announce that the former Light AR Protocol Standardization Working Group is now the Connectivity for AR Working Group.

Description: One of the key enabling technologies for augmented reality devices of all kinds is connectivity and communications.  With a range of use cases and applications from simple audio only smart glasses, to see through AR glasses providing simple information through a display, to more complex AR glasses and more immersive AR headsets, all these devices have requirements, constraints and challenges regarding connectivity and communications, and each have their own unique requirements.

This working group will explore this space to clarify the needs, requirements, constraints and challenges in this domain, following which, and based on member interest, dig deeper into one or more of these applications.

Many thanks to the working group Chair, Xavier Bonjour of ENGO, for his continued support and leadership.

Rx for XR Working Group welcomes new Co-Chair

We are delighted to share that Nick Rimmer of Oxford Optical Labs has joined as the new Co-Chair of the Rx for XR Working Group.

Nick has more than thirty years’ international experience of commercializing novel materials-science based products, technologies, and processes. He will be leading the working group with his Co-Chair and our Board member, Bernard Kress of Google.

All members are encouraged to sign up for our Teams channels

The Teams channels have replaced prior members portals as our members hub. It’s also the way members can access our members-only content and connect with fellow members.

All working group members are required to sign up for Teams to access important information and ensure active participation.

You can access the Teams Home Channel here and also by clicking on the Member login button on our website. To login for the first time, refer to the prior email from SPIE that should have been sent to you for this purpose. If you need assistance, feel free to email Vivian Ho, our Project Manager, IT, at [email protected]

Please complete our member survey

As we approach the end of the year, the AR Alliance would love to get your feedback. By completing this survey, you can help us plan for 2026 by directing our focus and efforts to the activities and objectives that can have the biggest impact for our members.

If you do not have time to complete the member survey but would like to provide feedback, please email [email protected]

Action required by admin representatives: provide info to SPIE for 2026 membership renewals

As we finalize preparations for the 2026 membership renewal cycle, we are refreshing all member admin details in SPIE's database.

On November 18, emails from SPIE were sent to admin representatives requesting your organization’s updated information. Thank you to everyone who has already responded. If you have not yet had the chance, we kindly ask that you do so as soon as possible. This information is essential for issuing your 2026 renewal invoice accurately and on time.

If you did not receive the original request or are unsure whether your organization has submitted its information, please reach out to [email protected]. Thank you!
