Event: Photonics at the Interface: Redefining AR with the Laser Display for AR (LDAR) Working Group

Description: This talk introduces the Laser Display for AR (LDAR) working group within the AR Alliance. The path to a socially acceptable, high-performance AR wearable requires a fundamental shift in photonics. By leveraging the narrowband, polarized nature of Laser Displays including Laser Beam Scanning, Laser Illuminated LCoS, and other laser-based architectures, we can achieve unprecedented control over light distribution. This shift enables high-brightness displays with minimal power consumption, eliminating distracting artifacts, eventually resolving the vergence / accommodation mismatch, and preserving social presence. We explore how we are uniting academic and industrial leaders to standardize and scale the laser display ecosystem, addressing the critical manufacturing and integration challenges required to bring the next generation of AR to the global marketplace.
